Corgi also produced Renault "Fainéant" trucks (the nickname given to the truck means "lazy boy', thanks to its under-powered engine lying horizontally under the cab), much more nicely modelled. Two examples: - left: Renault R 4153 4x2/2 truck fitted with a Fruehauf tank body (Corgi model), - right: Renault R 4153 4x2/2 truck equipped with an unknown brand removals body (modified Corgi model). Probably in order to optimize their dies, Corgi sometimes mixed scales like in the Charrington Set below (named as per a famous British beer producer/distributor), made from an AEC 508 tanker in 1/50 scale and a 1/43 Thornycroft A2, modelling vehicles from late nineteen twenties and both already available in their respective model ranges: The set being modified: - left: modified Thornycroft A1/FB4 4x2/2 truck fitted with a dropside body (Corgi model being modified) loaded with 11 beer drums (modified Corgi load), - right: Associated Daimler Co Type 508 4x2/2 truck equipped with a food liquids tank of unknown brand (Corgi model being modified). To be continued. Guy

The Corgi Thornycroft A2- which should be in a 1/44.5 scale, as per my calculations - being modified into an elongated chassis Thornycroft A1/FB4 (removable cab tarpaulin to be built): A few pictures of the vehicle, which allowed then the British Army to be equipped at minimal cost, through requisition, if required, of civilian vehicles built as per War Department standards: To be continued.
