I haven’t had much time during December, too busy, but I found bits of time here and there and I worked on the electrical system. This is not my favorite part, but it must be done. At the heart of this is the rotary connector, which I built from scratch. I will use the same control console as I use for my Krupp 180GMT and I put the connectors underneath one of the outriggers, not very elegant, but it was the only option. On the picture one can also see the swing motor tucked in above the rear axles. The rotary connector has 4 sockets, so I can simply plug in the motors in the upper. kerst http://forums.dhsdiecast.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=1096251

The gearbox is ready. There are 4 speeds altogether. It provides me with the Low-Low I need for moving the thing fully rigged and also with a few faster speeds. There is a factor 10 difference between the lowest and the highest gear. I made a short video of the first test drive. It is going in Low-Low with the motor running at full rpm's http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zw_bQFV9amwKerst http://forums.dhsdiecast.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=1096251

I can only agree with what the others have said. This is really an incredible feat of model engineering!

While waiting for the AL sheets to arrive I made the 235-ton hook block. I had very little (none!) information to help me and I had to somehow get some measurements from pictures. And now it’s finished I think it is not quite right. I might change the whole thing again. I also made a first mock-up of the boom, just to try out if it works. I am using 0.032” Al sheet. I bend the lower part and the upper part separately and then glued the two together. It seems to work and it is quite strong. Kerst http://forums.dhsdiecast.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=1096251
