I finally found this guy for a good price ($207.00) + shipping. Something about its fugliness and power is so beautiful to me... So it came with some detached parts which required repair. It is a fantastic looking model, probably one of Tonkins best. So does anyone have any advice or know what trailer would make a good pairing with this? I would really like to display it with some type of heavy load. Thanks- 26740256_Unknown by riveras2007, on Flickr 26740272_Unknown by riveras2007, on Flickr 26740288_Unknown by riveras2007, on Flickr 26740304_Unknown by riveras2007, on Flickr 26740320_Unknown by riveras2007, on Flickr 26740336_Unknown by riveras2007, on Flickr 26740352_Unknown by riveras2007, on Flickr 26740368_Unknown by riveras2007, on Flickr 26740400_Unknown by riveras2007, on Flickr

Put a trailer that can carry the old Space Shuttle. That is a beast. Thanks. CAW

Rivera2171, The French model company Miniatures du Faubourg have reproduced the Australian road train which was towed by the Tractomas sold down there: I have to admit that the price seems very expensive (240 Euros/resin-made trailer) but that road train should be a "killer". Link to the MdF website: https://miniaturesdufaubourg.fr/#home and to the page dedicated to transport models: https://miniaturesdufaubourg.fr/camions/ (pictures can be seen at the bottom). I have myself "solved the problem" by simply loading the Tractomas for road transport to an export harbor: http://forums.dhsdiecast.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=139055&p=32I hope it helps. Guy

I have always liked the look of that truck. You can clearly see a normal articulated truck cab,on top of a massive engine.First time I have ever seen it tilted open,to reveal the beast underneath. You definitely need to get a suitable trailer.

Quinella wrote:Put a trailer that can carry the old Space Shuttle. That is a beast. Thanks. CAW Ha! The Tractomas could probably do it... Thanks for the assist Guy. Yea I bought a 7 axle trailer from WSI thinking that would work, but the 5th wheel sits way too high on the Tractomas. Which makes me wonder if its that way in real life... It looks like a drawbar type trailer would be my only option at this point... modelmaniac wrote:I have always liked the look of that truck. You can clearly see a normal articulated truck cab,on top of a massive engine.First time I have ever seen it tilted open,to reveal the beast underneath. Rivera2171, Conventional road semi-trailers are generally designed for 5th wheel height between 1.25 and 1.50 metres and the 8x8 Tractomas one is much higher than that. I would therefore recommend to use it as a ballasted tow truck with a modular trailer (for example a 12-line unit made from 4 Corgi Nicolas modules, as a minimum): except for the LCR Tractomas, designed to tow 4 semi-trailers in an Australian mine, most of Nicolas heavy units are used worldwide ballasted (see below, the LCR version and a ballasted unit in operation in China): Regards. Guy

for how big a machine the mirrors look small enough to be pointless. I agree very impressive machine though.

I thought the Actros 8x8 was a big truck but this is huge. I suggest you look out for Corgi Nicolas bogies along with a girder trailer if you please. If you get lucky as you did with the truck, you will not have to break the bank. That is how I display my Mammoet Actros.

My only concern is I am a bit particular on details, the more the better. I do not know how well detailed the Corgis are... Thanks for the comment about the truck. I sent you a PM. The Corgi Nicolas bogies are very basic. No hydraulic hoses or other mechanical parts visible let alone steered wheels. The advantage is you get a lot of wheels for little money and on display, they do not look very different from more expensive models when seen from a few feet away.

So I finally was able to more less get a decent setup for my Tractomas. Between getting the wrong trailer type, needing a ballast trailer and waiting for eBay stuff to sell to fund all of this, this is what I got: There aren't many options for ballasts so I got this one from eBay. It is a Drake ballast. I had to modify it slightly to fit the Tractomas, but I am glad it worked without needing to greatly change anything. 27002800_Unknown by riveras2007, on Flickr 27002912_Unknown by riveras2007, on Flickr Got this IMC trailer from DHS. It has nice details and is a trailer for the price. The hitch on the Tractomas did require some minor modifications for the drawbar to fit. 27002704_Unknown by riveras2007, on Flickr 27002976_Unknown by riveras2007, on Flickr 27002960_Unknown by riveras2007, on Flickr 27003056_Unknown by riveras2007, on Flickr When all was said and done, the original load I planned looked far to easy for the truck to handle... 27003104_Unknown by riveras2007, on Flickr So I had to get a more substantial load... 27003312_Unknown by riveras2007, on Flickr So anyway, this is probably not too accurate but I am happy with the overall result. It was way more of an effort than I anticipated though... 27003168_Unknown by riveras2007, on Flickr 27003152_Unknown by riveras2007, on Flickr 27003136_Unknown by riveras2007, on Flickr 27003200_Unknown by riveras2007, on Flickr 27003216_Unknown by riveras2007, on Flickr

The completed unit looks very good, you did a very nice job with it and your second load looks much better than your first one you had on it. Steve

Very nice, you have done a great job! It looks very realistic to me. One thing I might add though, would be a pusher truck. Just a thought. Ken
