Long story short, yes the IH 520 tractor, jeep, trailer, and 2 axle stinger can haul a Cat 349 in most Midwest and Eastern states.

The catch here is, you can only carry the amount of weight supported by the number of axles you have on the ground, and the bridge law which varies in a lot of states. Most states will allow you 20,000 an axle. A handful of states will not give you 80,000 on 4 unless you have a stinger (booster) and want the weight spread with a jeep and booster. The West Coast has a completely different set of rules.

A 4 axle tractor and 4 axle trailer= 20-20-20-20 20-20-20-20 = 160.000 lbs. The weight of a heavy duty tractor and trailer is approx. 50,000 lbs. Payload would be 110.000, right on the money for a 55 ton trailer. Mind you, it is going to be closer to 100,000 because it is hard to axle out perfectly and also get 20,000 on the steer axle.

I am assuming the XL trailer is a 60 ton trailer.

The IH 620, trailer and single axle stinger would be: 15-20-20-20, 20-20-20. 20 =155,000. Empty weight of 55,000 equals payload of 100,000

Here is the new IH 520 with a jeep and 1 axle stinger:
15-20-20 20-20 20-20-20 20 = 175,000 Empty weight is approx 75,000 = Payload 100,000
2 axle stinger: 15-20-20, 20-20, 20-20-20, 20-20 = 195,000 with a payload of 110,000-115,000

The tandem axle tractor, three axle trailer, and one or two axle stinger in this case doesn't help you unless you have more weight to the rear like a scraper that is over the 3 trailer axles.

This set up was designed with a trailer neck for a tandem axle trailer and the short neck extension was added for the 4 axle 620 tractors. In my opinion the jeep was an after thought, and the trailer neck needs to be longer and up tight to the jeep neck to get maximum weight on the tractor. But, in the model world, this is fine as it is close. I am just glad to see it produced.

Lake Michigan States you can have 25,000-26000 an axle. On this DM setup, 15-20-20, 20-20, 20-20-20, 20-20 you could gross 240,000 lbs. with a payload of 130-140,000. Here again, if the trailer is a 60 ton, only 120,000 can be hauled.

In the pictures, The cat D9 could be hauled where I live on that set up. The FE 45 weighs around 109,000 - 115.000 if I remember right and could be hauled with a single or tandem axle stinger.

Your welcome Steve. The jeeps are very nice and spot on for accuracy and size. There is a tightening screw in the bottom of the 5th wheel, and looks like if loosened, it will slide all the way forward to the neck. Here is a picture hooked to a Sword Pete. 5 wheel pin needs to be modified to fit the Pete.

Thank you Ken for helping us as usual. I don't yet have the lowboy or jeeps, stingers. I do love the tractor with a Sword Rogers. I got to go lay down again. Ate Caesar's Salad last night and have been up all night. It must have been made in Rhode Island. Ete tu Brute?CAW

Thanks for the pics. DHS called today my red one is on the way. I also bought a red and white models with the stingers and extra 3 axle tractors.

Guys nice shots of the jeep, are any of you going to modify the king pin. I did on mine, now I have to get rid of the screw hole on top, I think that takes a lot away from an otherwise nice jeep.

RobS, that screw looks ridiculous, I put a kingpin in like the Sword and WSI models use. It is just a brad, but it looks much more realistic. You have to reduce the size of the hole also. When I get around to it I also have to ground down those unsightly holes that they screwed into. Also it will fit Sword and WSI tractors.
