Catom did a run of Tonkin Lowboys 8 or 9 years ago. Here are a few in my fleet so far.  Catom run of 1/53 Tonkin KW W900 and XL Specialized lowboy, Hauling a TWH Oshkosh Striker from Chicago's O'Hare Airport. Trailer has a 10' deck insert. Ken great models and your beam trailer is very nice great work on that unit. What is the overall length of that?

Ken,
Thanks for posting the photos. Are the 1/50 Tonkins very nice? How are they for Scale?

Ken: You are saying those Tonkin KWs are 1/50th??? Each rig looks great. Chuck needs to complete the KW line with a W900. I wonder if WSI will do it first. Thanks for picks. Will you answer my other question under the 1/64 lowboys post. Have you ever driven the Autocar or Mack Dm? Craig

Robert Thanks Robert. The KW's are 1/53, and the trailers are more 1/50. At the time, I could not get First Gear or Norscot to work with us. Tonkin did have a lower run number and price, but wound up being a real pain in the butt to work with. Very poor quality control. I have a few company issued, ATS, Midwest Specialized, Transport National, they are sleeper trucks with lowboys and very nice.

I meant 1/53 (I changed it) although their trailers are a close 1/50 scale. No, neither one, but did drive a Mack U, R, B, Superliner, CL, CH, (owned a RS700L), Freightliner COE, and long nose, Hendrickson, Ford, Peterbilt, Kenworth, Western Steer, and ( I WILL DENY THIS) one stinkin Volvo! Engines: Mack V8-300-350-237, Cat 625-350 HP, Cummins 350-400-600, Detroit 8v92, Transmissions: 5x4 Mack quadraplex, Mack 2 stick 6 spd, 13 spd, 18B with 2 speed rear ends,  Ken

Ken what is wrong with Volvo, my fleet was made up of both Mack’s and Volvo’s. I owned one brand new 2008 Pete 379 tri axle dump which was the worst mistake I ever made, (the list of problems with it is longer than the number of cab overs that Quinella owns)and the worst part was Peterbilt never stood behind the piece of garbage. Volvo gave me better on and off road service than Mack with double the cab space. To each his own is how the saying goes.

Ken thanks for the response, 30” over all that’s gonna make a very nice stand alone display. Now I have to ask, what’s the load gonna be?

The newer trucks, like the Peterbilt and Mack are nothing to write home about. I have always driven the older Macks with all Mack components, Hendricksons, (I owned a couple of Freightliners and a Mack RS700L) and Kenworths. To me a Volvo was always a fleet freight haulers truck, not designed for heavy haul. There was always the prestige thing too, when is the lat time you saw a restored ( or modern) Volvo at a truck show? If they worked good for you, that's all that counts. Just my opinion. Also Quinella before they bought Mack they owned Autocar, sorry to disappoint because I know it is a lot to take in on a Monday morning. BOOM.
