Looks like someone in the Design Dept spent way too much time on Pacman.

I've honestly lost all interest in anything new from Caterpillar. Some of their current excavators looks cool, but most everything else is all round and marshmallowy. It's like they hired Fisher Price Engineers. This new graphic is laughably awful, it's as bad as fake carbon fiber stickers on cars. Cat, what are you doing?

I heard someone say it looks like a bottle opener which might explain how the new design came to be. My Facebook page: NorCalDiecastCustomsClifton

The good thing is, any red decal on Cat machines usually falls off or fades away after a while. And that'll leave us with the good old CAT letters. Problem solved! Just don't look at factory new machines ;)

I don't know how many machines CAT sells because a customer thinks the logo is cool. Probably not very many. What do I know? Maybe that's more important than productivity, reliability, customer support, etc.

That's what I mean: maybe some people would rather have a new sticker on their broken down machine. Let's see how that works out for CAT.

True indeed, some of the dump trucks look awful, with a sloping/curved bonnet. In my opinion CAT didn't need to change anything.I understand that more aerodynamic profiles are fuel efficient, and if you run those machines any fuel savings are a good thing.Someone, somewhere at CAT probably got paid to 'update' the logo, why they added the red, though,is baffling.I always thought the CAT logo was an instantly recognized,as it was. Now it looks over complicated.Still, the older CAT machines still look 'rugged'.I personally prefer the look of older CAT machines.

Modelmaniac..great comment. The biggest problem I dont get is all these companies into the efficiency drive. It is just advertising spiel, specifically when most Construction equipment on the planet has the aerodynamics of a house brick. It all smarts of boredom in the Office and needing something to do with their time....and as has been pointed out in posts here...why alter something that has done them well for many years. Not only in looks but also in reliability.

The hexagon looks overly complex and really unbalances the design. I don’t personally think this is the step forward they were hoping for. Overall it’s their logo and their product and I wish them all the best. Any bets it’s changed within a year? LOL! Thanks so much for sharing this article.
