Lifting specialists have certainly noted that the rear left outrigger was blocked in closed position that day: it is therefore highly probable that the 1/50 crane driver cancelled any lifting.

Scania/VDA R500 10x4/6 carrier with flatbed and Palfinger PK 150002 Performance G knuckleboom crane, towing a Jumbo 1+2-axle drawbar trailer with extendable low bed (WSI models). The combination is carrying a conventional 20' container and a tanker 20' container (Tekno models).

To be continued.

Close view of the carrier which, with its powerful knuckleboom crane weights 36 tonnes, leaving a "small" 11 tonnes payload capability:

Homemade by Jean-François, a Gueguan tipping semi-trailer, equipped with a driven axle. The Renault tractor is a MiniCams kit:

Guy again thanks for the info on the Sisu and those pictures of them really show a nice looking rig. Those dump trailers are interesting especially the one with the drive axle. I’m assuming the box in front of the axle is the power unit, what is it?
Thanks
Steve

Steve,

Guegan built for some time semi-trailers with an hydraulically-driven axle, which could in some ways replace heavier 6x4 tipping units, when used with a conventional 4x2 tractor.
The box below the frame is indeed where hydraulic elements are housed.

Guy thanks for the response I have never seen one of those very interesting. Would you have a link to a company that manufactures these.
Thanks
Steve

Steve,

Axle-driven semi-trailers were mainly produced in France by Sebmo, Guegan and Fruehauf-France: their use remained limited to tippers mainly and dropped dramatically as 8x4 accepting 32 tonnes were developped.
Poclain Hydraulics (France) was a forerunner in that field and is still producing most of the hydraulically-driven axles today (on the MAN Hydrodrive for example): https://www.poclain-hydraulics.com/fr/
In UK, Multidrive went another way, with a shaft running from the tractor to power semi-trailer axles. That company is still in existence: https://multidrivevehicles.com/

Instead of simply delivering their engines to the "Class 8" US truck market, Caterpillar decided some time ago to become a truck builder with a torpedo range built for them by Navistar.
That deal terminated after a few years of collaboration.

Caterpillar C660/13 6x4/2 tractor and Trail King TK 110 HDG 3-axle lowboy carrying a Caterpillar 950 H articulated 4x4 wheeled loader of 18.5 tonnes (Norscot models)

Both tipper and tractor at rear (Hanomag-Henschel and Berliet) have been built from Minitrucks kits as well, while the Citroen van is from Minicirque origin.

Guy the W900 looks 100% better than the regular Norscot Pete. Very nice modification on that one.
