I'm building model steel beams for loads on freight cars. I'm not sure if red primer would look good. Also thinking orange for another color.Any ideas would be helpful. Thanks.

I think the red primer is a good idea.I have some plastruct I beams, for scrap 'metal',being cut by machines with shears. In grey primer, and red primer, some are black.I personally would use the primer. As the beams may be painted,on delivery,or on site. So,as a load being delivered,to somewhere,by train, they would look good.Whatever

Hi Bob,

What scale out of curiosity ? Over the years modeling 1:87 steel mill related things. Done my fair share of modeling I beams. Your on the right track for using the right paint. I suggest taking a trip to your nearest Lowe's or Home Depot as they both have different shades of primer.

Normally I pick up a couple of different shades. Then painting whatever with different shades till you find just the right color match for your project.

Hope that helps Bob.
