I'm building model steel beams for loads on freight cars. I'm not sure if red primer would look good. Also thinking orange for another color.Any ideas would be helpful. Thanks.

I think the red primer is a good idea.I have some plastruct I beams,for scrap 'metal',being cut by machines with shears.In grey primer,and red primer,some are black.I personally would use the primer.As the beams may be painted,on delivery,or on site.So,as a load being delivered,to somewhere,by train,they would look good.

Hi Bob,
What scale out of curiosity ? Over the years modeling 1:87 steel mill related things. Done my fair share of modeling I beams. Your on the right track for using the right paint. I suggest taking a trip to your nearest Lowe's or Home Depot as they both have different shades of primer.
Normally I pick up a couple of different shades. Then painting whatever with different shades till you find just the right color match for your project.

Hi. 1/48-1/50. Just loads for fold down end gondolas with idler flats. Also loads of pipe approx 24" dia. Thanks.

I have hauled a lot of long oversize beam, and all of them have been red primer.
