Very nice thanks , do not see that to often here. Any info on where and who owns it , or may by even more more pics. That winch unit looks real good as well , seems like everything got a complete overhaul. Thanks for posting. Eef

I'm surprised not to see an F&M MAFCO emblem on this unit, as stiff-legs are one of their specialties. They had their S-70 scale model on display at Conexpo.

trk4100, Here are some photos I had of S-70 Derricks. I would love to scratch build one of these beauties but, I just don't have the space for one.

Depends on which one you are asking about. The original picture of the S60 by trk4100 is currently in Bayonne, NJ. The blue S70 pictured at the Greenbank Telescope we sold a few years back to a scrap outfit on the Gulf coast. The white S70 pictued at the Hoover Dam Bypass just came off rent not too long ago and is in our yard just outside Cincinnati.

plunjk, A couple of questions if you don't mind: 1) "Those are our derricks...." Who is "our"? 2) The derrick pictured in the orginal post by trk4100 is currently in Bayonne, NJ, can you give a more precise location? Would like to see it in person. Randy M. 1) F&M Mafco
2) Ports of America Terminal I believe is where you will find it. But, I am not exactly sure how close you will be able to get to it.

Bob, would it be possible for you to post some photos of the white S-70? I am particularly interested in how the struts and the luffing tackle attach to the main mast and any photos of the bull wheel would be extremely helpful. I have looked everywhere for plan specifications but cannot find any detailed photos. Thanks, TM

Hope you are lucky Randy would love to some more hi res pictures from that unit. The one at the Hoover Dam Bypass got a triangular Manitowoc boom and jib , or am i wrong here ?? Good to see there is interest in this important piece of US (almost) history , my guess is there are a lot more things build by Derrick's then we know. My buddy just came off a shutdown that used one of these MafCo derricks. I saw some sharp pics from the job. That might be the unit in Ohio yard.?

My buddy is from MS, but I believe they were setting a "Large" Manifold on top of unit. TEI I think did the job.

That was my guess. We were just talking about that project today as a matter of fact. We had an S30 (82.5 ton capacity) on top of the boiler house and it was TEI that did the job. I would post some pics but Im brand new here and haven't quite figured that part out yet. Plus, the utility was VERY hardcore about taking pictures. One of our techs "got taken to the principal's office" to get his hand slapped for snapping a few pics. They made him erase them from his phone.

eef, Thanks for posting those photos. I used to have them but, I don't know where they went. I especially like the 4100 tower cranes. You don't see one photographed in the "out of service" position very often. Thanks for the link to the specifications. That really helps with some of the details.
