Olive's explanations on the tires "flattening" process: " I use a thermal cleaner, a paint glass bottle and suitable model tires"  " I insert the bottle in the tire, heat the lower part of the tire until it softens (be careful, it heats quickly quite a lot) and then I press the tire on the ground until it becomes hard again, as a result of the cooling process. As simple as that!"  It looks awfully simple!! Regards. Guy

Guy I’m fascinated by those pictures first the flat and fire, and then the tires with the loaded end dumps. Great work.

Guy that is great how they achieve the looks on those tires, I was just commenting on it while you were posting the technique of how it is done, thanks for showing how it’s done.

Guy the weathering is outstanding and the maintenance scenes are so realistic. Any dioramas of the pickup trucks that have been crushed by equipment and end dumps? My oldest brother went to college with a couple of guys from Minnesota and their family members worked in some type of mine there. My brother had visited them in Minnesota and when he came back he had pictures of the whole operation. A couple of pictures that stood out were of a fenced in area of about 10-15 pickups that were crushed from being run over.

That's why in most mines all pick-ups have to have a long pole with a flag on top, so that it can be noticed by dumpers drivers, who can't see the ground just in front of their huge trucks. But accidents still happen, mainly these days when dumpers drive back in position in reverse.
Just for information, I read somewhere on the French forum that Olive indicated having spent approx. 40 hours, just to weather the Bucyrus 495HR shovel.

Guy tell Olive the time he spent was definitely worth it. I have a couple of the Chevy pickups left over depending on their condition maybe I will do a diorama of the crushed pickups in the fenced in area.

While the Bucyrus shovel works at the quarry face, a drilling rig is busy below preparing for another front:  Filling of the drill holes with explosives:   As no explosives vehicle carrier could be found on the 1/50 modelling market, the truck was "simply" built by Michel, then weathered by Olive. Guy there are some great shots in that post. The dust is incredible along with the explosives truck. The picture of the top deck f to O&K looks like they were out in the pit and actually took a picture of the real machine. Also Guy don’t stop posting pictures of your teams work.
