It's nothing more than gravity and the process has been used tor decades. The platform the model sits on will have an "actuator" of some kind to either lift or lower one end a couple of degrees (it doesn't take much) allowing the model to roll from the effect of gravity. Positioning the camera properly creates the illusion of it rolling on a flat surface.

Diecast Masters is stuck in the 80's with their massively wasteful packaging.
