Hi folks, I hope you're all well. As you know, I've been pretty keen to pick up the R9150 from WSI, but a few weeks ago I came across a seller in Germany who had this model brand new for €135, which is an absolute steal for a 200 ton class mining excavator. I've already built, painted and weathered a slightly larger capacity coal bucket for it (probably around 20yds) and my plan is to and some more detail and fully weather the model. I won't be able to work on it often but it'll be a very enjoyable long-term project for me, and I hope you like the first pics. The R9150 is a beautiful model for sure, but I'm very glad I went for this instead!

Wow.That is a really good price,brand new,only one owner.  Looks like a nice machine.So,does this mean your now,not getting the 9150?Or will you get it as well?

Nice bucket detail!!! How did you make the teeth? Yes that's a good price for the model. I'd have bought it for that too - I still don't have one. I look forward to seeing it take shape.

Thanks guys. I have no plans to get the R9150 at the moment, but that may change in the future.
Jamie - the teeth are just layers of 1mm styrene shaped first with a Dremel then sanded by hand. I made them look a bit blunt and worn by adding filler putty. The detail parts are 2.4mm tube cut to very thin slices and stuck on either side of each tooth.
I primed the bucket with red oxide primer, which really helps the detail to pop when you add a light top coat (in this case, metallic silver acrylic).

Excellent work on that bucket Davie! I will follow this project with great interest. Wonder how hard it will be to find the exact detail on all the hydraulic lines on the back of the boom etc. By the looks of that bucket the rest of that model should come out great. Mike

Thanks guys! There are a couple of videos of the machine on YouTube that have a good look at the hydraulics etc. which is always helpful.
I've got plans to scratch build replacement hydraulic cyliners too... the plastic ones always look a bit off, and I can build more accurately detailed replacements.
