Another nice feature is that the whole unit is diecast metal, including the extension arms. The Kalmar DRF450 Reach Stacker is overall a more detailed model than the previous two which is demonstrated by the finer walkways, the hydraulic chain modelled on the right side of the boom, coloured lights and increased functionality with the cab having the ability to be adjusted forwards and backwards. These are brilliant and highly detailed pieces, the labels over the models are excellent and provide a very realistic finish. The small securing points along the bottom are metal and will support the holding straps very well. The ends fold down to allow the racks to be collapsed and piled on top of each other when unloaded. The only functional item that is missing is that the arms do not extend out of the ends to accommodate an overheight load such as the Merc 8x8 featured here.

Hi Paul, thanks so much and great to hear from you. I hope you're settling in after returning from Bauma, it looked like it would have been an awesome time. I have been trying to go for the past two, but I just can't seem to get the time when they are being held. It would have been awesome to have picked up one of the new Liebherr 776 dozers. Fingers crossed for 2019! LOL!

Continuing on with the reach stackers are two very beautiful models: Sany Reach Stacker SCRC4535 (unknown manufacturer) and the Sany Empty Container Stacker SDCY90K7 (unknown manufacturer). These models are not available mainstream from dealers, but they are definitely worth considering if you have any affinity for container handling equipment. Sany has definitely invested into it's marketing budget as can be seen by their Sany 86 m concrete pump model. These models have limitations, as do all models. For instance the thickness of the handrails will definitely bother some (as can be seen in the First Gear Komatsu WA900 loader discussion), but the detail and quality of these models is in another league when compared to the other models of this group on offer. One container handler sadly missing from my collection is the Liebherr container handler which was produced by NZG. I discovered it too late in the game and it was just too pricey a model for what it would have added to my collection. The painted red strip and Sany logo on the extending boom is a very nice touch. The casting between the upper and lower body segments could have been cleaned up as is evidenced by the somewhat obtrusive joining line seen at the rear of the model. As mentioned above the thickness of the railings would have been better in a thin metal instead of the thicker plastic presented here. Also a very nice touch is the clear plastic headlight covers over the silver painted headlights. The windshield wiper is also scaled nicely. Lifting eyes at the top of the cab are not open which would have been a nice feature. The heavy and solid tires inspire confidence. The finely detailed side mirrors are plastic, but the mirrored finish is superb. Detailing along the plastic wheel hubs is excellent. The bulky handrails, again are somewhat obtrusive.  Sany Reach Stacker SCRC4535 4 by ChandlerYohn, on Flickr"/> Detail continues to the rear with a nice cover over the rear of the boom, hydraulic lines and working lights continue. The tail lights are also coloured plastich which is a very nice touch. The tow hitch is a simple design, but the exhaust is well detailed. The wheels have an adequate range of motion, but pales in comparison to the steering angle achieved with the Kone Crane/Linde Reach Stackers. The plastic cab has excellent colour match with the remainder of the model. The painted Sany logo along the top is a very nice touch. A few close up pics of the AVIC Z-15 (1:48 scale) helicopter. This is manufactured by an unknown Chinese manufacturer. The actual helicopter was a joint venture between the Chinese aerospace firm AVIC and Eurocopter. The helicopter also features Canadian made Pratt and Whitney turbine engines. The model is something different and I thought it would be nice for executive transport and demonstrating filming of a site (even though traditionally that would be replaced w/ a steady mount on the nose of the aircraft or the use of a drone). The helicopter is configured for personnel transport (not VIP) such as in transport for offshore oil and gas platforms. The model has an overall excellent paint finish with the exception of some poor gluing such as can be seen underneath the left pilot door. The black seals in the windows is a nice touch. The clear plastic over the turbine intakes is meant to simulate the wire debris guard. Below the exhaust is a functionally opening door that could be used to stow cargo, I will be creating some wheel chocks to go in there for when the aircraft is on the ground. The landing gear is fixed, but this seems to be common on most 1:48 scale aircraft models. The figure is a Siku model, I removed the base that he came on and he is very well supported just with his feet. He is made of a flexible material and has some decent painting details. Overall, this is a sharp piece, w/ excellent detailing and some nice functionality in the opening side doors and storage compartments. It is let down a little w/ a sub par gluing and less than ideal quality control as well as a missed opportunity to offer retractable landing gear. MTH Dual Lane Rail Bridge with welding repairs. Hi all, just a few pics of the dual lane rail bridge which is 2x 30 inch spans and a single 10 inch span. The larger spans do feature a working aircraft beacon light and if you hook a 9 volt batter onto the leads it will blink. These are plastic models, but quite sturdy. They feature nicely textured supports which would be easy to weather and add some more depth. There are also walkways along the sides and centre of the bridge with a small walkway for any pedestrians or workers on the bridge. There are fine bolt head details cast into the black ironwork. There are screw holes to secure track to the bridge. I really like the possibilities of this bridge as it can be demonstrated under construction with a heavy crane(s) lifting a segment into place, SPMTs can be used to transfer the bridge into position. A derailment could be set up w/ an emergency crew on site and a crane helping to clear the bridge... lots of options. These were purchased to fit onto my 70 inch glass shelves and I think will make a great addition to my static displays. Featured models: Lionel Canadian Pacific (CP) Rail EMD GP35 with DD, MTH TTX Husky Well cars, Lionel CP Rail Caboose, MTH Norfolk Southern 200 tonne heavy duty flat cars w/ generator loads. Fine chains on the walkways of the GP-35 engine and the bayview caboose are a nice feature and on the featured railway models. The bolt detail also comes through on the 48' containers featured in the in distant rail line. There are also provisions for lashing the load or lifting it. Some disassembly of the model is required to free the generator load. The model comes with the load chains and the fine spring tensioners at the end. Obviously the load master will require some remedial training as the load has shifted a little bit to starboard. Of note is that the generator load is completely hollow within, so if you want to pose it being lifted you would have to be weary of the angle, or you could affix a flat plate to the bottom to seal it up. An update with a military spin. I have been working on some custom models to build up the diorama with some of the excellent Sword military models. I have a collection of 1/48 military aircraft as well as some 1/48 Macross/Robotech models. If you see some large mecha, or strange weapon systems, they belong to that side of the collection, making it a little more "nerdy" than usual. LOL! This diorama represents a forward re-supply and features Sword HEMTT, M1 Abrams as well as Tamiya HMWWV, Airfix Quad Bikes, Airfix Infantry, Forces of Valor MH-60 Blackhawk Helicopter and Tamiya Jerry Cans. Hi a Cutter, that's hilarous about the mech. The Hummer is a Tamiya model kit, I love the detail on it and the functionality. The Blackhawk is a pre-assembled model from Forces of Valour-Unimax and they offered a nice selection of modern military aircraft. It has great flexibility and functionality. You can switch up the weapon sponsons w/ Hellfires, Stingers, Fuel Tanks and the side doors open. Most of my military aircraft are Franklin Mint and sadly that line has been discontinued.

Beautiful engines! I just picked up one of the Lionel BNSF ES44AC's. It's the first run in diecast. The think weights like 15 pounds. I paid an arm and a leg for it though

Paid almost $1200 for it but I think it's worth it. If I had to compare the quality to a model, the diecast ES44's from Lionel are equivalent to CCM models. I hear you on the MTH flatcars. I think I have around 12 of them. I don't know if you have heard of Ralph's Trains but he does a lot of stuff with flatcars and heavy equipment. I think he has a website that's worth the look! Anyways enjoy those engines and get a powered one would ya!
