I am thinking about going to the ConExpo in March of 2017. Is anyone else going? How many days do people recommend to attend? For people just interested in collecting diecasts, do you just buy the tickets for the exhibits and booths or are there educational programs tailored for the collectors?
Thanks,
Ed

I'll be going, As for how many days to attend, if you want to try and see everything you'd have to spend the entire week, and you'll probably still miss a lot. I usually just get the tickets for the booths and exhibits and skip the educational programs, but some are worthwhile to go to. But bring a full wallet theres lots of places to get models at the show and you'll be able to find some of those hard to come by models and also great show pricing. (Except at Cat, they tend to mark everything up)

Ed If you're attending just to purchase diecast models, you could do that in a day if you have a rental car parked close by that you can put the models in when your arms and bags are full, or use the FedEx desk in the main hallway to send them out. But as this is obviously your first time, I can guarantee you will not be able to concentrate exclusively on models! You should attend at least three days minimum in my opinion. While there are some uncommon models available and some good prices here and there; you have to keep in mind that when you factor in the minimum $149 entrance fee, your airfare, housing, meals, etc. in the end you're actually paying a premium price for anything you get there. As WCollins mentioned, Caterpillar usually has inflated prices on their stuff but in 2014 Volvo outdid them! DHS has had a booth in the hallway outside the North Hall in a hallway corner between entrance doors in the past, but I don't see them listed in the exhibitor directory (yet?).

I'll be there. Looking forward to my first ConExpo. Also found a few Subdivision projects with 657's and D10's I'll have to check out.

Got my tickets booked, as far as diecast the last three times I really didn't find anything that I would consider smoking deals. Though the Asian companies have off scale stuff that's usually cheap and fun to tear apart later.

Con Expo is a great show to see the latest in Construction Equipment from all the manufacturers. There are some scale model distributors there like DHS, Buffalo Road Imports and couple others. Stop and see Chuck and say hello. The last show in 2014, CCM and Tonkin Replicas also had a booths there. Hopefully, CCM, Tonkin and Diecast Masters will be there in March of 2017 too. Caterpillar, Volvo, Case, John Deere/Hitachi/Bell, Hyundai, Komatsu, Link-Belt, Wirtgen Group, Liebherr, Manitowac and Kobelco (I might have missed some other OEM manufacturers) all sold scale models at their booths, but like W Collins mentioned, a lot of the OEM's pricing for their representative scale models are a lot higher in price than what you could purchase them from DHS. For Example, Caterpillar and Volvo where ridiculous in their pricing and I wasn't impressed with the quality of the Volvo models. Not worth the price to me. I bought some in 2014 from the Tonkin booth (paid cash and they gave me a reasonable cash discount and also bought multiple pieces) and I also bought the Link-Belt cranes from the Link-Belt booth (paid cash for that too) but pricing was no different than retail price from a distributor and I also bought a Kobelco Excavator there too. In, 2011, I bought a Case 580SN Backhoe Loader in 1/35 scale, but it was only available from Case Const. Equipment Manufacturers booth. It was special promotion only through them. Thats another thing, keep your eye out because some of the OEM's might have special promotional items that maybe only available through the OEM. Also, they tend to introduce new models sometimes at the shows too. They do have educational programs, but nothing for scale models, they are mostly put on by the equipment manfacturers, industry experts, governmental agencies about certain topics related to the industry. Check out the Con Expo website and they will have a listing of educational programs that are available during the show. There is a lot to see and you need at least 3 days or more to see everything. Bring a good, comfortable pair of walking shoes, you will need them. Also, do your research, shop around on deals for hotels. Con Expo has hotel accommodations available, but check around. In 2011, Circus Circus was $75.00 per night for rooms during the show. It was at least $25.00 per night cheaper than the cheapest room that Con Expo had under their block of hotel rooms available. Keep in mind too, the closer you get the show, room pricing goes up, along with the Casino hotels, but you might be able to offset that if you gamble and get comps for dinner and so forth. If you have never been to the Con Expo show, it's definitely worth the trip.
